Most problems with the dashboards come from where a file is opened or saved, not from the results. These few habits avoid nearly all of them.
Download first, then open
When a dashboard arrives by email, OneDrive, SharePoint or Teams, download it to your computer first, then double-click it so it opens in Chrome or Edge.
Opening it straight from OneDrive, SharePoint or Teams in your browser only shows a preview of the file, and the dashboard can't work inside a preview. You'll see Some content didn't load or A script didn't run correctly.
Opened properly, there's no OneDrive or Teams bar across the top, and the address bar starts with file:///. If it opens in a different browser, right-click the file, choose Open with, and pick Chrome or Edge.
Keep your saved dashboard
When you build your dashboard, a copy is saved to your Downloads folder, named for example Brindle Creek High School HSC Dashboard 2025 with results. That file is your dashboard from now on:
- Move it to where your school keeps student data, and open it from there each time. It opens straight to your dashboard.
- Keep it after the year is over. When next year's dashboard arrives from me, you drop this file in with the new results, and all your earlier years come with it.
- Save a copy, in the bar across the top, saves another copy to your Downloads folder at any time.
When the dashboard asks for a folder
Making files for staff, and the ATAR Trajectories PDF reports, ask you to choose a folder. Make a new folder inside your Downloads folder and choose it:
- Edge and Chrome won't save straight into Downloads itself.
- Folders synced to OneDrive can interrupt the saving partway through.
- Your browser may ask once for permission to save there. Allow it.
Once the files are made, you can move them anywhere, OneDrive included.
Opening a zip file
If saving into a folder isn't possible, the dashboard downloads everything as one zip file instead, so nothing is lost. Windows treats a downloaded zip of web pages with suspicion and can unzip it empty, so before opening it:
- Right-click the zip file and choose Properties.
- Tick Unblock and press OK.
- Right-click it again and choose Extract All.
Sharing with staff
- Your dashboard holds your students' results, so keep it where your school keeps student data.
- I suggest sharing your complete dashboard only with senior leadership, everyone above Heads of Faculty, and giving other staff the files made for them. See Making files for staff.
- Your ATAR Trajectories file holds your current students' marks and aspirations. Share it only with the staff who talk with students about their ATARs.
