Your dashboard can make separate files for different staff, so each person gets what they need and nothing more. A subject's file holds only that subject's students and marks, so you can share it with that faculty knowing nothing else is inside it.
Open your dashboard from your computer. Download the file and double-click it, so it opens in Chrome or Edge. Don't open it straight from OneDrive, SharePoint or Teams in your browser. Opening your files has more on this.
The steps
- Open your saved HSC dashboard from your computer and click Make files for staff in the bar across the top.
- Tick the files you want. Some are already ticked, so untick anything you don't need. Which files
- Under For each subject, tick the subjects you want files for. Tick all and Untick all help.
- If you like, add a note for the top of every file, for example Please read this with your Head of Faculty before our faculty meeting on 3 February.
- Click Choose a folder and make the files. When the folder window opens, make a new folder inside your Downloads folder and choose it. Edge and Chrome won't save straight into Downloads itself, and folders synced to OneDrive can interrupt the saving.
- If your browser asks for permission to save there, allow it. Wait for the message saying how many files were saved. PDFs take a few seconds a subject.
- Move the files to where your school keeps student data, and share each one with the staff it's for.
Which files
| File | Who it's for |
|---|---|
| HSC Results Dashboard | School leaders |
| HSC Results Dashboard without the Units tab | The same dashboard with the Units tab left out |
| Subject Results Dashboard with every subject | School leaders |
| A copy of this complete file | School leaders only. It has both dashboards and your results file inside it |
| A PowerPoint presentation | A whole-staff meeting. See Making the staff presentation |
| A Subject Dashboard for each subject | That subject's faculty |
| A PDF report for each subject | That subject's faculty, for the latest year |
| A Word analysis template for each subject | That subject's faculty to fill in, for the latest year |
The files go into a new folder inside the one you chose, called for example Brindle Creek High School HSC files for staff 2025. Subject files are in folders of their own: Subject Dashboards, Subject PDFs and Analysis Templates.
Worth knowing
- Choose a new folder inside Downloads, not Downloads itself and not a OneDrive folder. Once the files are made you can move them anywhere, OneDrive included.
- Only the latest year gets PDFs and analysis templates, so none is made for a subject that didn't run that year.
- Every file opens straight to its dashboard and can't load another results file.
- Staff open their files the same way you do: download first, then double-click. Opening your files
- I suggest sharing your complete dashboard only with senior leadership, everyone above Heads of Faculty, and giving other staff the files made from it.
If something goes wrong
| You see | What to do |
|---|---|
| No folder chosen, so nothing was made | Click Choose a folder and make the files again, and choose a folder. |
| Tick at least one file to make | Nothing was ticked. Tick the files you want. |
| Saving into the folder you chose stopped, and a zip file is in your Downloads folder | Nothing is lost: every file is in the zip. See Opening a zip file. Next time, choose a new folder inside Downloads, not a OneDrive folder. |
| A zip file in Downloads, and no folder window appeared | Your browser isn't Chrome or Edge. Open the zip as in Opening a zip file, or use Chrome or Edge next time. |
| Something went wrong while … | Email me and include the message the dashboard shows. |
